Sprint 6 Blog Guns N Gauntlets

  Sprint 5:

For this sprint, I still had a priority on mostly texturing and some modeling. most of the assets made were environmental props and structures for the levels. This sprint had a texturing task that I was very fond of. The Egg model was really fun to make and very interesting looking too. There was a problem with the parking lot models but I will get back on that later. Other than that, it was a normal sprint for me.

Tasks completed for Guns and Gauntlets:

  • Cracked Alien egg Model and Texture (3 points)
    • 1500 tris
    • 512k texture map
  • 12 Environmental Roadside assets models (1 point)
    • about 600 tris Each
    • 1k UV
  • 2 different stackable parking lot skyscraper models and textures (3 Points)
    • 1k texture map

Problems Encountered and Solutions Made:

For this sprint were 2 issues that have affected my workflow. I believed that I could have done more but certain things have happened. One issue that has happened is the amount of work that other classes had to manage since I became a project lead for the animation project now with trips to use the mocap room on the weekends. I have to manage this now, so I have been busy paying attention to other classes along with this class.
The last issue is dealing with the parking models. First off when starting this I tried finding skyscrapers that would contain parking and use a similar floor plan for the models. However, when making it I went thru 3 different iterations of one parking lot model. the first iteration was very small and could hold a max of 8 cars within the lot. Realizing that is too small I decided to be a bit creative and have an exterior ramp that curves to the next floor. However, that exceeded the tri limit that I was given so I redesigned it to be a bit basic block shape. This worked out ok with fitting more than 12 cars in. Even though not many cars are going to be in that model I just wanted the sense of scale to be a bit accurate. Once I had the idea, I made the second model similar to the one I made already.
